Not-So Tortured Poets Dept: A Poetry Workshop for Teens & Tweens In-Person

Leave your typewriter at home in this interactive workshop which will help you learn to line break and get your rhythm on for National Poetry Month. Poet and novelist Fox North (our Teen and Adult Programmer by day) will bring new exercises and techniques to teens and tweens, with opportunities to share work with peers in a supportive environment. This workshop is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.

Fox North (previously published under the name Phoebe North) is a critically acclaimed writer for tweens through adults. Their last novel, Strange Creatures (Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins) was called “a devastatingly tragic and deeply immersive masterpiece” by School Library Journal in a starred review. They have an MFA in poetry from the University of Florida, and have taught writers at every stage of their lives from kids to seniors. By day they work here at our library, where they do everything from plating up pizza for D&D nights to wrangling chairs for a group of enthusiastic yogis. They’re also a Girl Scout leader, activist, and builder of obscure and eclectic playlists. They live in New Paltz with their tween, a black cat, and a Dalmatian named Lucky, whom they manifested.
